We’ve all made bets with our friends. Whether the wager is typical or outrageous, some of them remain ingrained in our memories. Basketball icon Michael Jordan isn’t immune to the temptation of ridiculous betting behavior. If you thought your bets on the playground were wild, His Airness got you beat!
Six Figure Insanity
Charles Barkley recently stopped by The Dan Patrick Show to talk about various issues. When it came to reminiscing and Barkley started bringing up great stories, one person came to mind: Michael Jordan. Barkley wasn’t shy about spilling the beans on Jordan’s wild golf bets.

While the two basketball legends were playing golf together, Jordan once made a six-figure bet on a putt. Barkley recalled the scene on the show, “Charles, get out of my way, you’re in my line.’ I’m like, ‘How much is that putt for?’ He’s like, ‘$300,000.’ I said, ‘Let me get out of your line,'” he told the host.
A Monster On The Course
That’s not the only crazy golf bet involving Michael Jordan. In 2009, he won a bet against Tiger Woods at the Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge. Woods didn’t think Jordan would break 92 on the course.
In the 1993 book Michael & Me: Our Gambling Addiction… My Cry For Help!, the author stated that Jordan lost $1.25 million in bets over a 10-day span. Jordan also managed to get his golf game on during the 1992 Summer Olympics.
For The Love Of The Game
Fortunately, the golf course has also delivered some happy moments for the six-time NBA Champion. In 2013, Jordan held his wedding reception at Jack Nicklaus’ golf course. In addition to guest Tiger Woods, Spike Lee and Patrick Ewing were also spotted at the party.
