Dwayne Lorenzo Bowe has had a rather unusual career. He started out as a football wide receiver. He played for Lousiana State before being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2007. Then he spent eight years playing ball before moving on to something totally new.
Dwayne Bowe – Athlete Turned Rapper
Yes, Dwayne quit the game because he decided that what the world needed from him was a rap career (or so he says).
As you can see from the delightful introduction to Dwayne’s rap music below, he was a much better football player than he is a musician.
The Case For Dwayne
Dwayne wasn’t a bad athlete; far from it. In 2010, he was top of the NFL for receiving touchdowns. He was generally considered to be one of the best wide receivers in the game.
He made good money and was well respected, but then he made the mistake which probably closed the door to any hope with the XFL. Dwayne was in his 8th consecutive season with The Chiefs when the league announced that he would face a one-game suspension. No big deal, right?
The Case Against Dwayne
It turned out to be a much bigger deal than you might have believed. Despite his $36 million contract, Dwayne got busted for possession of a controlled substance. Things went downhill from there. The Chiefs let him go in 2015. Then he picked up a two-year contract from the Cleveland Browns who let him go a year later.
The trouble for Dwayne’s desire to join the XFL, “if the money’s right,” is that Vince McMahon has made it clear that he intends for the XFL to remain closed to those with a criminal record. So it looks like Dwayne’s rap career needs to grow legs because the ball has been taken away for good.
