After losing in a decision to Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs (33-2-29 KOs) will fight another undefeated fighter in Polish Maciej Sulecki (26-0-10 KOs) on April 28 in Barclays Arena in Brooklyn.
The 31-year-old Brooklyn native, who actually lives near the venue of the fight, said that he’s very excited to fight Sulecki on his homecourt.
“He’s an undefeated guy that I know will be looking to make a name for himself by beating me,” he said. “I’m looking to have a great training camp and get myself focused to really put on a show for the Brooklyn fans come April 28.”
Sulecki actually had a choice between Jacobs, Spike O’Sullivan and Andy Lee but he decided to return to middleweight for the first time to face the American. The 28-year-old said that he couldn’t pass up the chance to fight one of the best middleweights in the world.
“I’ll be very well prepared to stay undefeated and defeat Jacobs in front of the Polish boxing fans at Barclays Center as I continue my march to become a world champion,” he said.
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearns also announced the undercard bouts. Another Brooklyn native Jarrell Miller will fight Johann Duhaupas while Katie Taylor will fight Victoria Bustos, both top women flyweights to unify the WBA and IBF championship belts.
In his last fight, Miller knocked down Mariusz Wach (33 wins, 17 KOs). The last bout for Frenchman Duhaupas was a win over Newfel Ouatah on Dec. 14, 2017.
“A top Heavyweight does not have to be heavy or light, fat or slim – a Heavyweight just needs to be strong,” Duhaupas said. “I will show on April 28 that I am strong enough to beat Jarrell Miller.”
The fight between Jacobs and Maciej Sulecki, as well as the undercard bouts, will be televised live on HBO.
