A fan proposed to his fiancee in the first quarter of Thursday’s home game of the Vegas Golden Knights against the Edmonton Oilers. By the third quarter, Steve and Cari Poscente got married in an Elvis-themed wedding.
During a stoppage of play in the first period, the couple participated in a “Name that Tune” game. The third song was “Marry You” by Bruno Mars, then Steve dropped to one knee and asked the question.
Big D, the Knights arena host, even teased Cari, giving her time to change her mind.
When she screamed, “yes!” that’s when the announcer dropped the big news.
“We’re going to have a wedding a little later in this game,” he said. “We’ve got the dress … we’ve got everything. You’re getting married. Tonight.”
The Knights also conducted a quick poll on the audience for the couple’s first dance. The songs they had to choose were “Sweet Golden Knights” (to the tune of “Sweet Caroline”); “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” by Elvis Presley and “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion.
Of course, they chose Elvis.
The ceremony was held at “The Fortress” while the one who officiated was an Elvis impersonator. Meanwhile, Steve wore a tux prepared by the Golden Knights emblazoned with the team logo on the back.
The team also shared a clip on their Twitter account, saying “There was a proposal at our game last night. and a wedding. elvis was there, as was a gila monster.”
The best thing about that night, however, was that the Golden Knights ended up winning the game against the Oilers on a score of 4-1. The Knights avenged their worst defeat at the hands of Edmonton on Nov. 14 when they were trounced, 8-2.
“It was a big game, it’s a divisional game for us again tonight,” Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. “It’s a team we haven’t beaten yet, so the guys wanted to come out and play hard tonight.”
